Founder: Carole HartleyCarole Hartley has over thirty years of experience in education both as a classroom teacher and private tutor. Her master of arts degree is in Comparative Literature with much of her studies completed in Wroxton, London and Stratford, England. Ms. Hartley holds four teaching certifications in the areas of English, Psychology, Early Childhood and Special Education with a concentration in behavioral and emotional challenges such as ADD, ADHD, SID, ODD. Ms. Hartley utilizes diverse teaching methodologies such as demonstration, lecture, cooperative learning, inclusion and many others. She is well versed in specific programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Touch Phonics, Wilson, Everyday Math, Math in Focus, Common Core, LLI Reading, Singapore Math, etc.
Teaching Philosophy: The role of a teacher is a communicator and a facilitator, conveying knowledge to students and interacting with colleagues, parents and administrators toward the achievement of common goals. An effective teacher must determine each child's mode and level of learning and develop her educational rationale and lesson plans based upon the child's strength in addition to the curriculum. The responsibility of the educator is not to ask the student how smart he or she is, but to ascertain how the child is smart. By addressing the students' needs for discover, interaction and hands-on learning in a positive environment, their comprehension of virtually every subject is continually reinforced. This philosophy ensures that each student obtains much more than a fundamental awareness of social and academic issues; it assists them in identifying and developing their own talents as well as broadening the vision of how best they might employ their gift. CYC offers consultations that address a variety of concerns: educational, behavioral and developmental. In addition to individual consultations, a three part assessment process is also available. |
